  • Online Challenge: Playing with Colors
Twin Cities Photography Group (Minneapolis, St Paul, MN) This Months online challenge is all about creating mood with colors This challenge requires two images.  In the first image you should use complimentary colors to achieve  a feeling of agitation.  Complimentary colors are the opposite colors on the color wheel. By placing two opposite colors next to each other in an image you can create a feeling of agitation.  Use this method in addition to other composition rules to create an image that will generate  the desired reaction  from  your viewer. Try to choose a subject matter that will compliment the reaction we are trying to achieve.  The second image we will be creating  should have a  harmonious feeling.  By using analogous Colors  (these colors  are next to each other on the color wheel)  your image should generate a soothing effect.  Remember to incorporate  other composition rules into your  image  to further strengthen it's impact. Pick a subject matter that adds to the story. Happy shooting   Minneapolis, MN 55401 – USA Wednesday, February 8 at 1:00 AM Attending: 13 Details: http://www.meetup.com/tcphotogroup/events/49357492/

  • WORKSHOP: The Business of Photography
Twin Cities Photography Group (Minneapolis, St Paul, MN) There's a difference between being a photographer and having a photography business. This workshop will provide insight into professional photography and will introduce you to the tools you'll need to transition to and build a photography business. Whether you're an emerging professional, straddling amateur/professional status, or just curious about what it takes to live and work as a pro, you'll find this workshop worthwhile. Professional photographers are almost all small business people. In this role, photographers must deal directly with accounting, legal, finance, real estate, and personnel decisions, not to mention sales and marketing. There's no such thing as saying, "That's not my department." Photography is also a rare field because technology, innovation, and creativity are inextricably tied. Professional photographers need to possess a strong level of curiosity and be open to change. These qualities make it even more important to have a clear vision of what you're trying to do and a working knowledge of the mechanics that make a business run. Subjects to be covered in this 3 hour workshop include:  What is a professional photographer? What kind of a photographer are you or do you want to be? How much should I charge?  How much can I make? Fundamentals of a business plan Effective marketing and networking Business mechanics: where to go for professional help   The format of this Workshop is a conversation/discussion. Attendance will be limited to 20 to give everyone a chance to participate. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Steve Silverman has conducted numerous workshops for the Twin Cities Photo Group, AIA (American Institute of Architects), SMPS (Society of Marketing Professional Services), and ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects).  In addition, he conducts photo workshops on a variety subjects through his own company, Photo Success Workshops.  He also tutors photographers on a one-to-one basis.  His Edina based commercial photography business is divided between executive portraiture and architectural/landscape photography.  He travels throughout the USA and Canada shooting architectural projects for national and regional clients including architects, contractors, developers, and other commercial interests.  He shoots executive and business portraits for a variety of companies including law firms, accounting firms, a wide variety of financial services companies, and industrial concerns.  His photographs appear frequently in general and business media as well as client web sites.   Recently, along with his wife, Robin L. Silverman, he published "America's Land of Tranquility Visions of the Secret Beauty of North Dakota." This hard bound coffee table style book showcases the extraordinary beauty of North Dakota's vast and unspoiled landscape. Now in its second printing, the book has been sold in almost every state and more than 25 foreign countries.  His images are part of private and corporate collections throughout the United States, including the Smithsonian Institution. They have also been featured in several calendars, including the North Dakota Horizons calendar and exhibited at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo.  His diverse photographic career has included work as a photo-journalist for more than 30 Philadelphia area newspapers. • Lens calibration for FOCUS alignment with Klaas.
Twin Cities Photography Group (Minneapolis, St Paul, MN) From 12 pm -  5 pm  * Bring 1 camera and 2 lenses for test as a maximum * THIS WORKSHOP HAS NO REFUNDS! (Unless the workshop is canceled) * Be aware that not all camera's can be adjusted (see the list on the bottom.) Your DSLR and FOCUS alignment.  All optical lenses and camera bodies are built to a finite degree of focusing tolerance. This means that not every lens will be able to focus perfectly with every camera body right out of the box. However, modern camera bodies allow users to fine tune the focus of each new lens on one body through micro adjustments. Even quality lenses may need to be calibrated to match your camera body for best results. Perform these micro adjustments immediately when you receive a lens. If performed correctly, your lens will be able to focus perfectly and will need no further adjustment. If you have correctly adjusted your lens and the focus is still inaccurate, you may have a bad copy of the lens and need to exchange it. Video: http://www.youtube.co… A lot of people do not spend $150 on a tool to test and calibrate their camera and lenses as it has to be done only once so I came up with a way to share the cost and effort in this workshop. There are a lot of tools around that can check the focus of your lens. After a long search I opted for the LensAlign as the best way to use for this purpose. While only a limited amount of camera's can change the setting (See list on the bottom of this page) without sending your camera back to the manufacturer, you are still able to test it. DISCLAIMER: We will assist you as best as we can with the test and the results however everything is solely your responsibility. TCPG can not be hold responsible for any results either good or bad, the good news is that the only change is a setting in your camera software that can be reversed very easy.    PICK YOUR TIME-SLOT To make it workable and cut down on waiting times there are time-slots to choose from, send me a message or write a comment with the time-slot you want. (Look first for availability) Per time-slot a maximum of 1 camera and 2 lenses.   REMEMBER NO REFUNDS (Unless we cancel the workshop) 12pm – 1pm 1. Debra 2. toddj 3. • Workshop: HDR, After the Tone Mapping
Twin Cities Photography Group (Minneapolis, St Paul, MN) In this workshop we'll concentrate on what to do with your HDR image after you've tonemapped. We'll look at a tone mapping workflow (show parts I couldn't display in the earlier classes), then go through Adobe Camera Raw (or Lightroom) for the gross adjustments.   We'll then take the image into Photoshop for the rest of the optimizing process.  We'll look at layers for making adjustments, overlay original images, and go through the workflow of creating the final image. Bring a laptop if you want to play along…..
